Media Converter is the electronic device that it was brought in order to convert twisted pair cable which is actually a copper wire into fiber optic and one of the reasons they used due to being itself as Link test integrity because media converter when there is a link loss the TX AND RX which transmitting and receiver LED will be out.
Actually the best factor for media converter it was used for a large corporate where by pulling of cable it was an issue especially for the network engineers so what they decided as simple solution to up come with Media Converter by converting Twisted Paired Cable to fiber Optics by which the twisted paired cable actually a copper wire which is an uplink is been connected to media converter in order to push the link to other side that is connected with fiber cable and that end must be connected with media converted in order they can been seen each other end and not that only in order to convert again that twisted pair cable (copper cable) into fiber cable.
But the thing to note that is that copper wire is the one which is provide internet and sending it to the switched network and the fiber cable is used in pushing the link that is coming from long distance like 500m to 2km.
